Position Description: Preaching and Teaching: The pastor should provide a solid Bible-based preaching and teaching ministry to meet the needs of the congregation and attract new members. The pastor should strive to be an outstanding communicator, accurately taking Biblical truth and providing avenues of application so that the congregation both understands and is motivated to apply it in their lives. Shepherding: It is expected the Senior Pastor delegates much of the shepherding responsibilities to the lay leadership of the congregation. As an under-shepherd, the pastor seeks to protect God’s flock from harm. Through God’s power, he strives to heal those who are bruised, bring back those who have strayed, and provide safe pasture for those who are not yet in God’s flock. He provides biblical advice in times of crisis and ministers to the sick, dying and bereaved. Leadership: The pastor is out in front of the church and is the role model for the congregation. He sets the path, casts the vision, and inspires the church to move forward in the will of God. As a mentor, he recruits, motivates and trains youth and adult leaders to do the work of the ministry. He trains God’s people and releases them to fulfill God’s call to serve with skill and authority. Administration: The gift of administration is helpful in the pastor’s life. He is responsible for supporting and overseeing the work of the ministries. He also fosters and maintains a close working relationship with the teams of the church. Evangelism: The great commission must continually be emphasized. The pastor always presents the opportunity for salvation in the worship service and personally demonstrates life style evangelism to the church. Worship: The pastor inspires and leads the congregation to a rich worship experience by example, and teaching. Ministries: The pastor encourages and oversees outreach through the various ministries in the church. He recommends and validates ministries, missionaries and programs that the church should support. Personnel Leadership: In working with the Youth Pastor, the Senior Pastor is to provide general oversight with all paid and non-paid personnel. Though daily interaction is not necessary, it is expected that the Senior Pastor meet with and know the staff of WSBC well. Specific Duties: Preaching and teaching Sunday mornings Conducting Bible study on Thursday nights Conducting weddings, funerals, baptisms, as needed Providing pastoral counseling when needed Visiting those in spiritual need Participating with the Board of Deacons and the Ministry Council Attending quarterly and annual business meetings Providing biblical advice when requested, including pre-martial advice Working with the existing teams of the church within the established bylaws

Church Description: Winthrop Street Baptist Church is seeking a Senior Pastor who should conform to the Scriptural standards for ministry as recorded in 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9. Located in Taunton, MA we are a Spirit-led congregation of approximately 250 attendees. The successful candidate will succeed the current pastor who is retiring after 32 years of inspired service to WSBC. The Pastor is the primary teaching pastor of the church. He should give considerable time to the study of the Word and teach the Scriptures to our church family by word and example. He should aim to feed the church family, and guard the church against the attack of the enemy so that we might fulfill our mission statement of “Know Christ, Grow in Christ, Serve Christ, Share Christ. Attendees come primarily from the city of Taunton and surrounding communities of Berkley, Raynham, Dighton, Norton and Bridgewater. Responsibilities Include: 1. Leading the church in planning, conducting and evaluating a comprehensive program of Christian worship, discipleship, education and missions. 2. Aligning of all ministry goals to achieve our common purpose as related to attendance in worship services and small group and commitments to financial contributions, membership and ministry. 3. Providing a corporate worship experience of a quality that glorifies God and inspires a broad range of people within and outside of WSBC. 4. Promoting common communication tools that create unity within the entire church organization. 5. Maintaining a staff that is equipped, managed, encouraged and held accountable to meet its responsibilities. 6. Developing leaders among the congregation and staff while maximizing the contributions of people already in place. 7. Conducting baptisms, weddings, funeral services and performing baby dedications. 8. Visiting people in the midst of crises (i.e. death, sickness, trauma or other significant events), where pastoral care is required, demonstrating warmth, openness and sensitivity to the needs of those involved. 9. Overseeing all religious education programs to ensure programs and curriculum are in keeping with the overall theology and philosophy of WSBC. 10. Leading WSBC in efforts to target and win the lost and unchurched in our geographic area. Also supports regional, national and world missions as an active member.
